PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty Course

Join a growing movement of divers collecting critical data and making a visible difference on every dive.

Turn every dive into an opportunity to protect and preserve our underwater world

Marine debris is one of the most widespread and damaging threats to the health of our oceans. The PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty Course empowers you to actively remove debris while diving — and contribute valuable data to help scientists, conservationists, and policy makers better understand and combat the marine waste crisis.
By participating in this course, you become part of a global network of Ocean Torchbearers taking real action to protect what they love.

Through hands-on training and guided ocean dives, you’ll gain the skills to:

  • Safely identify and remove underwater debris
  • Conduct official Dive Against Debris® surveys
  • Record and submit your data to the PADI AWARE Foundation™ global database
  • Understand how underwater cleanups support scientific research and inform policy
  • Recognize the connection between shoreline waste and seafloor pollution
  • Build a survey team to monitor a site over time and identify marine debris hotspots

You can combine this course with other relevant PADI or AWARE programs, such as:

  • PADI Open Water Diver
  • Freediver
  • Peak Performance Buoyancy
  • Coral Reef Conservation
  • Shark Conservation
